Fresh facts on Thursday emerged into how the late staff of the Osun State College of Technology, Esa-oke, Mr Olaniyi Emmanuel missed his convocation at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as a PhD holder due to his sudden demise at the hands of gunmen.

NAIJARAY recalls that Emmanuel was shot dead by suspected herdsmen while five other staff of the institution and two students were abducted on Tuesday at a location known as Eti-oni in Obokun Local Government Area of the state, while returning home after the close of work.

Meanwhile, a classmate of the deceased, who simply identified himself as Hameed, said they both graduated from the department of educational management during the 2015/2016 academic session, in which their convocation was slated for next week.

He described Emmanuel as an easy-going and brilliant person who was free with everybody irrespective of age and social status.

“This is indeed pathetic, it appears as if one is dreaming. How would the life of a vibrant and ambitious person like that be snuffed out of him within a second without remedy.

“We recently met on campus and complained about the delay in our convocation ceremony and general issues in our department… no one would ever thought of seeing him for the last time. This is sad.”

The head of department of educational management, where Emmanuel completed his doctorate degree, Dr. Yemi Adediwura, described his death as a rude shock to the department and the faculty of education in general.

He eulogised his good gesture as a man with utmost determination for success, saying his assailants have committed a serious crime against humanity.

“We sympathize with the affected family, the faculty of education, his department, educational management and the institution as a whole and we pray to God to give him eternal rest in the blossom of Christ. May the good Lord give the family the necessary fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” Adediwura said.

Speaking in the same vein, a former student of the College of Education, Ilesa, now a journalist in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, Mr Sunday Oguntuyi said the late Emmanuel was a self-made man, who gave in everything to attain such academic feat.

“I know him way back at College of Education, Ilesa, where he worked as a photographer on the campus, he was a toast of everybody then because of his jovial nature and sense of humour.

“He singlehandedly foot the bill of his education throughout the university with proceeds from his photography business before he eventually secured employment at OSCOTECH.”

“He really struggled to survive and be educated; this is a pitiable end for such a pleasant and hardworking man”, he lamented .
